about

Koyote is a Parisian DJ’s DJ – one of those best kept secrets of the French scene, a cult producer and a mesmerizing character with his Hawaiian shirts, thick moustaches and fishing habits. Revered by big names in the music world (Jackmaster, Bok Bok, Nick Hook, DJ Nasty, Nehpets have praised him as one of the best) he caught the ear of Dre Skull, head of New York tastemaker label Mixpak and released 3 legendary EPs for them between 2011 and 2014 . We are now proud to welcome the next phase of his career on Sound Pellegrino.

“Let Me Tell You What I’ve Got” is a twisted EP that doesn’t sound like most of the dance music you’ll hear these days. Imagine if the RZA circa ODB’s first album was trying to make House music with that same naive childish approach, furiously hitting notes on a broken piano, on top of a hissing drum machine. Koyote is obsessed by rawness, first takes and the notion of your first idea being THE ONE.

This kind of hectic minimal piano rawness is particularly well displayed on the title track “Let Me Tell You What I’ve Got”: Hypnotizing, repetitive, haunted, organic, barely quantized. It’s futuristic in its alien approach while remaining undoubtedly human and tangible texture-wise.

“I’m Comin’ Mama” explores the same cowboy piano territory except there’s definitely a crazy fight happening in that saloon with chairs flying around. More maximal, more techno, and also more melodic, giving away romantic Koyote’s strong songwriting talent.

The vinyl-exclusive “Brigitte” follows up on the melody and melancholy, bringing forward Koyote’s love for François de Roubaix-style ‘70s French movie soundtracks.

“Heavy Orgasm” is a bit more tracky and drum-centered at first, then makes way for faux-organs and global percussive house and techno vibes inspired by Koyote’s many travels in that wonderful little village they call the World.
